1. Assignment Overview

Performance Management and Compensation are critical components in ensuring employee effectiveness, motivation, and organisational success. This assignment requires students to analyse, evaluate, and propose improvements to real organisational practices based on concepts learned in Module 3.


2. Assignment Task

You are required to select one real organisation (local or international). Based on publicly available information, company reports, interviews, or workplace experience, complete the tasks below:

Part A: Performance Management System Analysis (40 marks)

  1. Describe the organisation (industry, size, workforce, goals).

  2. Analyse the current Performance Management (PM) process, including:

    • Goal setting

    • Performance measurement

    • Appraisal methods

    • Feedback mechanisms

    • Performance review cycle

  3. Identify three (3) strengths and three (3) weaknesses of their PM system.

  4. Evaluate how well the PM system aligns with the organisation’s strategic objectives.


Part B: Rewards, Base Pay & Compensation Strategy (40 marks)

  1. Explain the organisation’s reward philosophy (e.g., pay-for-performance, competency-based, seniority-based).

  2. Analyse the following components:

    • Base pay structure

    • Allowances and benefits

    • Incentive schemes

    • Non-financial rewards

  3. Assess whether the compensation strategy supports employee motivation, fairness, and retention.

  4. Identify gaps and propose improvements aligned with best HR and organisational practices.


Part C: Critical Reflection (20 marks)

Write a 500-word critical reflection on what you have learned about:

  • The importance of aligning performance management, rewards, and compensation

  • Key challenges organisations face when implementing these systems

  • Your personal insights on how organisations can balance fairness, motivation, and performance
