This page summarises the three student categories and links to the full guideline for each category. Students can choose the level that best matches their experience in qualitative research.
Undergraduate & Postgraduate Students

1. Overview & Eligibility

The Student Track in QRDC 2025 is designed to nurture emerging qualitative researchers at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students may join as individuals or in a team of up to three (3) members from the same or different programmes/institutions.

  • Open to all local and international students from any discipline.
  • Entries must focus on qualitative research design or related components.
  • Each student/team may submit one entry per category.

Student Category 1
Qualitative Research Design Proposal
Beginner–Intermediate
Design Proposal

Focuses on designing a clear and coherent qualitative research proposal with aligned problem, purpose, research questions, methodology and ethics.

  • Short to medium-length proposal.
  • Emphasis on alignment & feasibility.
  • Suitable for coursework or early thesis ideas.
Student Category 2
Full Qualitative Research Design
Intermediate–Advanced
Full Design

Requires a more comprehensive qualitative research design, including detailed sampling, data collection and analysis plans with stronger methodological justification.

  • Full design structure.
  • Stronger focus on rigour and trustworthiness.
  • Suitable for dissertation/thesis-level work.
Student Category 3
Qualitative Data Collection & Analysis Plan
Intermediate
Methods Focus

Emphasises the design of qualitative data collection instruments and the analysis plan, demonstrating how rich data will be generated and interpreted.

  • Detailed interview/FGD/observation protocols.
  • Clear step-by-step analysis procedure.
  • Suitable for students who enjoy methods and tools.
