Module 8: Qualitative Research Data Analysis

Module 8: Qualitative Research Data Analysis is designed to develop learners’ competence in analysing qualitative research data systematically, rigorously, and meaningfully. This module supports postgraduate students, researchers, and educators who are conducting qualitative studies in education and social sciences.

The module focuses on transforming raw qualitative data into credible research findings through structured analytical processes. Learners are introduced to key concepts such as data familiarisation, coding, categorisation, and theme development. Emphasis is placed on understanding how qualitative analysis aligns with research questions, research design, and theoretical perspectives.

Throughout the module, learners engage with authentic qualitative data such as interview transcripts, focus group discussions, documents, and observation notes. The module highlights the role of the researcher as the primary instrument of analysis and emphasises reflexivity, transparency, and ethical responsibility in interpreting data. Both manual and software-assisted analysis approaches are discussed to strengthen analytical reasoning rather than tool dependency.

Module 8 adopts a competency-based education and training (CBET) approach, where learners demonstrate mastery through applied analytical tasks. Trustworthiness, credibility, and systematic documentation are emphasised to ensure methodological rigour. By the end of the module, learners will be able to independently analyse qualitative data, develop meaningful themes, and present findings that are coherent, well-supported, and aligned with academic research standards.
